Although that’s not a consumer facing idea name or campaign headline, it gets the point across. At the time of this campaign, consumer insights revealed that one of the biggest challenges for Vans Customs was that many customers felt overwhelmed by the blank canvas and simply didn’t know what to design. To inspire creativity and make customization more approachable, we showcased how Vans athletes Beatrice Domond, Dakota Roche, and Karina Rozunko—none of whom are professional designers—found inspiration in their everyday surroundings. Whether it was a favorite pattern, the natural colors of their environment, or personal artwork, their creative process demonstrated how anyone could turn simple ideas into a unique and expressive pair of Vans. This successful campaign resulted in a large increase in Customs being made as well as consumers being overall more satisfied with their designs.
